Château La Guirlande 2019
Ageing; Oak aged in French oak for 15 months, bottled with minimal use of sulphur
Structure; Full bodied
Food Pairing; Slow cooked Lamb shanks or roasted shoulder of Goat with herbs and garlic.
Description; Rich dark fruit aromas, soft and full on the palate with a delicious touch of spice. This is one of those wines which is and is not, the vineyards are in the Corbieres A.O.C., but after harvesting the grapes are transferred to the family winery at Domaine de Castelnau and here the wine is made and aged. The family winery is outside the Corbieres region and hence we cannot call this a Corbieres, but effectively it is and at a very good price for Corbieres , which technically it is not.
Producer Profile; Situated halfway between the Mediterranean Sea and the Massif Central foothills, 4kms away from the historical city of Pézenas, the Estate vineyard extends over plains and garrigues. While the fine sand, or clay, or silt carried by the nearby running Hérault waters give fresh and fruity White and Rosé wines. The Etang de Thau, not far away, bathes its influence on the Picpoul de Pinet plots. There are 210 hectares in total and most of the production is now of varietal wines sold as pays' d'Oc. The vineyard has a system of night mechanical harvesting to protect the grapes potential. Soft pressings with juice selection and limited sulphites addition.
